The Culinary Institute of America

Considered one of the world’s premier educational institutions for future chefs, the Culinary Institute of America is a culinary arts institute that finds itself with numerous applicants every year. The CIA, as this culinary school is oftentimes called, has three campuses where students can learn the fine art of cooking and all that is involved with it.

The Culinary Institute of America is where a lot of popular chefs first made their marks in the culinary industry. Names like Grant Achatz, Roy Yamaguchi, Charlie Palmer and Cat Cora have been through these halls and have become prime examples of what this culinary school can produce. This may be why a lot of students choose to try and get into their many culinary programs.

Some of the courses you can find being offered in this culinary college include bachelor’s degree programs in culinary arts and pastry arts, associate programs, certificate programs and short courses. If you are looking to get a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts or in pastry arts, you can only find these courses offered in the CIA’s New York campus. Students who want associate culinary degrees from this culinary institute can try to enroll at both the New York and St. Helena campuses.

Certificate programs are offered at the St. Helena Campus in California and the San Antonio Texas campus offers culinary students a chance to graduate from a culinary arts associate degree.

Getting into the CIA requires quite a few things. Of course, before applying at this culinary college, you will need to put together all of the necessary requirements for your application. It is also advisable that you apply a year before your planned start to help you get the six month hands-on experience in a professional kitchen that is necessary for acceptance and enrollment. Some of the things you need to prepare for your enrollment at this culinary institute include GED credentials or your high school diploma, recommendation letters and assessment tests.
