Le Cordon Bleu International
One of the pioneers in culinary education is the school known as Le Cordon Bleu International. The name of this culinary school is actually the French term for “The Blue Ribbon”, which is significant in the sense that most award winning recipes at many culinary competitions are awarded a blue ribbon for excellence.
This culinary institute has been around for more than 100 years. The school’s history states that the first ever cooking class held by the institute was done in Paris in 1896, a year after its founding by Marthe Distel in 1895. From then on, the school saw a number of notable figures going through its portals. Some of the popular graduates and attendees of this culinary institute include Julia Child, Mario Batali, Giada de Laurentiis, Jeff Probst and Ming Tsai, to name but a few.
This legendary culinary institute has quite a number of campuses worldwide, with 17 in the US alone and another 18 elsewhere in the world. Campuses can be found in London, Tokyo, South Korea, Sydney, Mexico City and Ottawa. The courses that are offered in these culinary schools include hospitality management, restaurant management and hotel management. These are apart from the culinary arts courses that they have on their list.
You can choose to enroll in their Bachelor’s and Master’s culinary degree courses or you can get yourself into one of their many short term diploma programs that can run for a few weeks to a few months. These diploma programs are also offered in a variety of levels, from basic to advance.
If you cannot find yourself near any of the many culinary arts schools under the Le Cordon Bleu International name, you can still get an education from them by going online. The school offers distance learning for those students who are passionate about food and the art of making food but cannot find a campus near them.
