What is Catering Management?
Catering management is another course you can enroll in at any reputable culinary institute in North America and elsewhere in the world. This course teaches people how to run a catering service or organization and includes more than just meal creation and planning.
When a student enrolls in a catering management course in one of the many culinary schools and chef schools in and around the US, he or she will learn a number of things that will help with the running and the management of a catering service. Usually, people who get a certificate or an associate’s degree covering this course end up running canteens, cafeterias and other similar food establishments for companies and businesses.
Aside from menu development and ingredient purchases, you will be expected to serve and store food for the establishment you are asked to manage. You will also need to hire and train staff for the positions under you, should you become a catering manager.
You will also learn how to how to run a catering service or even a catering business on your own. This culinary program can actually teach you how to become an entrepreneur and you may find yourself servicing special events like weddings, conventions and corporate shindigs.
Not that many culinary institutes actually have a catering management degree or program for those who want to learn how to run a catering business or manage a catering facility. There are only a few culinary schools that offer this in and around the US. Some of the culinary institutes you can consider for this course include The Art Institutes in Texas, Le Cordon Bleu and The Culinary Institute of America.
Also included in the list of culinary schools that can facilitate your desire to become a catering manager is the French Culinary Institute. All of these culinary institutes have different admissions requirements for this course and students will need to meet these requirements in order to start their first step towards a catering management career.
